Howls heard near Molly's Rock Park in Sumter National Forest
(Show Printer-friendly Version)
YEAR: 2020
SEASON: Fall MONTH: October DATE: 31 STATE: South Carolina COUNTY: Newberry County LOCATION DETAILS: Near Molly’s Rock Picnic Area. Sumter National Forest. NEAREST TOWN: Newberry NEAREST ROAD: U.S. 176 OBSERVED: 10/31/2020 9:30pm Car broke down near Molly’s Rock Park on highway 176 between Whitmire and Pomaria near Mount Bethel Garmany road. Was with wife and son-in-law. We heard 3 long vocalizations or howls that were identical to Sasquatch howls you hear demonstrated on tv or online. Did not sound like coyote or cows for sure. This is a fairly isolated area in a national forest. Son-in-law is a hunter who is familiar with animals and sounds in the area. ALSO NOTICED: Odd that it was very quiet and no sounds of bugs or anything. OTHER WITNESSES: Three. Car broke down going from Whitmire to Newberry after taking in-laws home to Whitmire after dinner. Son-in-law was trying to get our car running when the calls were heard. OTHER STORIES: None of us have ever heard anything like this in person. Made our skin crawl. TIME AND CONDITIONS: 9:30pm dark and overcast ENVIRONMENT: Pine Forest with creeks and ponds. Few residences in area.
Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Matthew Moneymaker:
I spoke with the witness, George Mcconnell. Most of the relevant information is contained in the report. One important thing not mentioned in the report: The direction of the howls from Hwy 176. He says the howls were on the north side of the hwy, roughly 400 yards away. He was stopped on Hwy 176 roughly one mile north/west of Mount Bethel Garmany Road.
George and his adult son-in-law hunter say the howls were "Ohio Howls" (Google it). Local people should know about this report. It is very recent.
Satellite images show the surrounding area to be a huge, thick, forest zone where bigfoots could easily reside undisturbed. Google "Molly's Rock Picnic Area" to see map and satellite images.
