Big howls in MD panhandle, near Deep Creek Lake State Park

YEAR: 2022

SEASON: Fall

MONTH: November

DATE: November 2nd

STATE: Maryland

COUNTY: Garrett County

LOCATION DETAILS: The area has scattered farms and lots of hills and mountains surrounding it along with lots of forest and woods. There’s a reservoir right near my house also that’s not a far drive that’s stocked with fish and to me it be the perfect place for a Bigfoot to be close to no people there.

[Investigaytor (MM) notes:
GPS for nearby intersection mentioned below:
39.500707, -79.236830

NEAREST TOWN: Swanton

NEAREST ROAD: North glade Rd/495 intersection

OBSERVED: My mom and I were sitting out on our bottom porch swing below our house while our dog was going to the bathroom. It wasn’t to cold and it was enjoyable to sit out. We sat there for about 10 minutes and then the dog was alerted to something but we couldn’t see it.

We think he was alerted to the fox and coyotes that were making a little noise. They normally make more but they weren’t as active. Some of the cows and dogs on the farms surrounding us were making noise like they normally do also.

We quit talking and about 2 minutes after that a gut bellowing howl, roar and scream type of sound came from across the street from our house on the ridge. About 15 seconds after the first sound the same type of howl started up again then it went quiet dead quiet. The fox and coyotes went silent along with the dogs and cows and they normally don’t. They will keep on til the wee hours of the morning.

I got my coyote call out and attempted to get the thing to make the howl again but it wouldn’t. I tried to get the coyotes to make noise but they wouldn’t even call back to my call and that’s what struck me as weird. I’m an outdoor guy. I’ve heard coyotes, bobcats and bears. And whatever this was sent the hairs on my neck up and it clearly startled my mom and shut the animals in the woods up also.

ALSO NOTICED: Coyotes were abnormally quiet

OTHER WITNESSES: Me and my mom. We were sitting on the swing waiting for the dog to use the bathroom I was teaching her the difference between the fox call and coyotes before the howl went off

OTHER STORIES: A couple people I know heard similar sounds on the opposite side of the ridge but I haven’t talked to them since I’ve been fishing at the reservoir

TIME AND CONDITIONS: 11:45 pm. There were mild clouds in the sky and the moon was peaking through. I could see alot even though it wasn’t a complete full moon. Weather was about low 50’s degrees and no wind or breeze.

ENVIRONMENT: Mountain ridge with a couple open fields below it crops have already been harvested. The one field I also coyote hunt out of with my brother and it’s close to the ridge.
